"Green Wood Spoons"
When you think "green" you may expect the actual color itself, or perhaps green in the environmental sense. In the case of "Green Wood Spoons" green is referring to the nature of the materials I use to make spoons and other household items. "Green wood" is unseasoned wood that has been recently cut and has not yet dried. Carving spoons from green wood is easier due to the large amount of water content in the wood. Once a spoon carved from fresh wood is dry it can be tidied up with sharp knives for a tooled finish.
"...spoon carving is a revolutionary act. It helps cut through the mass-produced cheap culture that we have absorbed like zombies. Such a simple household implement, taken to extraordinary heights. Why shouldn’t our most basic kitchen stuff be beautiful?" - Willie Sundqvist "Swedish Carving Techniques"
